Abstract

The HIV/AIDS was one of global health problems. Peripheral neuropathy was common neurology complication that experienced unconsciously by HIV/AIDS patients thus disrupted their daily activities. An aim of this study was to know self care activities effected on HIV/AIDS patients’ Peripheral neuropathy level. The Quantitative Research, A quasi experimental with control group pretest and posttest design was conducted in this study. The total samples of 95 respondents, 71 respondents were given self care activities intervention twice a day for 5 days and the others 24 respondents as a control group. Hence the sample was taken randomly. The result showed, the majority of respondents aged> 29-60 years: 87 respondents (91.6%), male: 76 respondents (80%), duration of HIV / AIDS> 7 years: 44 respondents (46.3% ), And duration of ARV treatment> 6 years 45 respondents (47.3%). Ferther more the multivariate test results of self care activities intervention (p; 0,000) and age (p: 0.005) had an effected on peripheral neuropathy levels. The chances of peripheral neuropathy occurred in the control group of 23%, older age 61%, male 37%, duration of HIV / AIDS> 7 years 11% and duration of ARV treatment> 6 years 2%. Hence the conclusion, self-care activities intervention, age, duration of HIV and duration of antiretroviral treatment have an effected on peripheral neuropathy levels. This research was expected can give some good contributions for nurse autonomy development in nursing practice, addition knowledge in nursing education and as basic learned of self care activities for HIV/AIDS patient in nursing research. Key Words: Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)/ Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS); peripheral neuropathy; self care activities.
